Finalising Roll packaging

This element of the brief wasn't a main aspect, however I wanted to make sure the packaging was understood. Unfortunately I feel the packaging I constructed out of mount board, hasn't turned out neat enough to actually submit. After talking to Fred I am mocking up the packaging on photographs and also creating an artwork that would go on the packaging.

I wanted the design to be quite simple, and also able to be used for the whole year.

I based my design on the template I received when my dc publication arrived. I feel it's appropriate.

There will be the roll logo and slogan at the bottom, and then the white box would be a sticker that would be stuck onto the card.

The test in the bottom column specifically states what is in the package, i.e march issue, magazine with poster etc...

bit more decoration on the cover, aiming to infuse a bit of the express/delivery side of it.

Updating Roll website,

roll packaging,

I have had an idea to how I should package roll. I want to use classic brown paper, as I feel it compliments the magazine's photography and colour elements that are in the logo.

However I did decide that I want to include something that makes each magazine unique, THE COLOUR OF THE LOGO.

I thought that for protection reasons and also decorative, I could use coloured tissue paper that would wrap the magazine up, within the envelope.

The colour would relate to the magazine,
in this case,
WHITE

I think the brownish colour, and the white (or whatever colour for the logo) compliments the magazine.

I found this in the studio,

I had been researching envelopes but thought this more sturdy package would work better. Unfortunately it's too battered to use, but I could use the net.

I chose stone coloured mount board, it's sturdy enough to hopefully fold but not too much of a replicate of the package I found. It also has that brown colour I like.

It folded perfectly and didn't rip which was really good!!

WHAT. For some reason, when I folded the two flaps that would hold the poster in, it ripped quite a lot. I will have to edit this out in my photographs.

It fits nicely into it, When I photograph it, I will add a logo onto the image. The fold out poster would be in the bit on the right side.

Roll packaging

So as was discussed at my mini progress crit, I need to finish ROLL off properly.

I want to package the magazine, so if you were to get it sent to you, it would come in a package.

I thought about using brown paper, seeing as it goes nicely with the photographic element of the magazine.
I also think something neutral will compliment the bright colours and photographs that are on the magazine. HOWever I don't want to use white.

BAG/BOX/ENVELOPE??

I thought about packaging it in an envelope, with padding so it didn't scuff or anything.

Box? I thought about mocking up a net with card that the magazine would go in, would this be too much??

BAG? Using paper or cellophane with the logo as a sticker or something.
Need to experiment.

PREP FOR PRINT

I have readjusted the size of the covers slightly to give me more room when making the package.

I am printing less of stuff just incase it goes wrong or needs to be changed and printed again.

Final adjustments/design decisions:

Syntax gig poster:

I am printing a black and white version of the poster.
I have asked people how they read the poster, they said that the background image shouldn't be so harshly covered up, so I have made the type smaller and into the two corners.

I've added a slight grey to the white poster, to bring it out slightly so it isn't just on white.

----------------------------------------------------

TP fold out poster adjusted slightly. Making the type smaller in the bottom left.

------------------------------------------------

Roll fold out posters

added few issue details on the poster, however typeface is small so shouldn't intrude on the poster.

---------------------------------------------------

Syntax cd covers-

Improving typeface size and enlarging the kerning on the text at the back. I also made the barcode bigger.

(too small)

TYPEFACE CHANGE FOR TYPOGRAPHIC POETRY.

I have struggled with typeface with this brief, as I wanted to use something quite classic.
Minion Pro - Goudy Old Style
I like it's crispness but still looks like quite a classic serif.
