FilmPoster, Drive - development

Original image

Dulled out the lights and expanded

I felt his face was too dark and blurry

chose new face to add:

Film poster, The Adventures of TinTin

I have decided that in order to produce large enough film posters, I am going to try and use some of the larger photographs I sourced for my previous film magazine brief.

I have developed a film poster for The Adventures Of Tintin:

Initial image:

Here is what I have done to the image to produce an A2 sized, portrait poster.

Image
- Created blue background same colour as the sky (roughly)
- Expanded clouds and sky background of original image
- Deleted and re-positioned the plane, and blurred to give it an effect of it being further away
- Increased contrast of image
- Added more clouds using white to zero gradient and brush tool
- created overlay block colour of a dark blue and light blue
- expanded sea at the bottom to give more room for billing block etc...
- added darker gradients around the corners and a beam of yellow onto the characters
- I have also created a radial gradient that focuses on the main title, with an added cloud filter for texture

Text
- I created a billing block from inspiration from existing tintin poster (also added logos of film producers/sponsors)
- chosen typeface for main title Helvetica Neue (bold, black, light, regular)
- Edited main type with a drop shadow, outer glow and gradient overlay

Here is the poster at the moment, I will develop further:

Film posters, initial thoughts for 'Text only' posters,

Shawshank Redemption,

Idea of representing the bars through the text

Title being tightly kerned to help represent the trapped, prison feeling. 'Hope can set you free' being more independent.

again, tight kerning, in a corner, representing trapped feeling

bars overlay the text. Not sure if this is easy enough to read as a poster

Film poster brief,

Do I create posters from existing films/upcoming films?

or

Do I make a film up and produce a poster that works for it?

I have fairly large scale images from a previous project I did, producing film mag covers?
Or
I could use existing films but recreate them from different, perhaps more accessible material??

Combination of the two ^^

Type of film stills I could source to use in creating film posters:

A very rough example of the type of thing I want to be producing;
however, I can use a variety of media (photography, illustration, type only etc..)
I can either source existing photographs or shoot my own
