I need to make sure that the writing over the image is clear and easy to read. I thought about adding a black rectangle that could sit behind the text, however, I don't like the effect this gives the magazines look.
It separates the title and the text too much, and also doesn't flow as much, if anything, it seems to complicate it's appearance. I also think the bright colours on black makes it look slightly gothic.
Trying with white text and coloured logo, need the logo/title to stand out.
Adding more content,
The magazine is monthly, so considering the cover's contents, I want it to appear fairly minimalist, but look like a substantial, monthly magazine.
Right grid?
After playing around with layouts using this grid I thought about using a guideline like this:
I can move the strips of photographers featured and exhibitions and competitions around according to the location of Roll. However, the issue etc.. sits alongside it.
----------------------------------------------------------
I am getting bored of A4, new format 210X210.
The square format, although different, I think could feel more like a monthly issue. It could work either way but I think it would stand out as being more unique in both appearance and size. This also means I can use photographs that aren't in any danger of being too pixelated (hopefully).
-------
Regarding this cover, a few changes had to be made, I have to make the layout work with the images.
The text on the back, has been kept within the layout but has moved so remain clear. I have also tried using two images on the cover, I am not keen on the split being down the spine, it looks like it's trying to be hidden, but obviously when seen, will look a bit tacky.
I have made the images larger and moved them more to the left, so that the split isn't in the middle but slightly off to the left. These seems to appear more authentic, and not too structural.
Covers so far, still in development:
