We had a meeting with Gemma to discuss our progress.
What she liked:
- Layout of the images throughout the book as it showed individuality and showed off the images themselves
- The breaker spreads with the business cards as it showed the branding side of the course well
- Colour works well
- cover and breaker design
Problems raised
- Business card breakers, if some breakers have business cards that are too low, page not filled enough
- Students who haven't submitted yet, how to fill the 6 extra spreads
- Quotes
- Order of the students
Problems Solved
- In the likely case that the 6 students don't provide us with work and information we have decided to include showcase pages that will come just after the breaker spread that introduces a new category. This takes up 4 spreads
- To solve the business card idea, I am going to produce one spread that contains the business cards on them that will go just after the contents page as an overall introduction to the students and their work
- We went through our printed off version with Gemma and she re ordered the students within the categories
Since then I have re ordered the students on our document, re page numbered, we also replaced the non existent students with appropriate breakers and showcase pages with their images on them.
STILL TO DO:
- get rid of Susan's name on her quote page as she isn't there any more
- Receive blurb from Gemma and add into book
- Add page numbers next to student names on contents page
- Change breaker names on spreads so they are correct
- Finish acknowledgments page

Syntax gig poster
This is the promotional poster at the moment, I am happy with it, and will perhaps now develop different formats from this design.
Typographic Poetry, promotional posters,
These are the four posters (at the moment) that will work as promotional. Portrait layout that would fit into bus stop frames etc...
They would also be inside Waterstones according to the appropriate month/issue.
WHAT IS READY TO PRINT?
- Typographic Poetry, covers and posters
- Syntax album covers, gig poster and ticket
- AHU business cards, letterheads, compliments + exhibition leaflet/poster (need to do banner poster)
- Roll - fold out posters + promotional poster
- Book brief - need to do complimentary products , e.g diary + book mark
THIS IS REGARDING PRINT ONLY:
RED = NEED TO COMPLETE
GREEN = READY TO PRINT
BLUE = NEED TO START

Typographic Poetry, promotional posters
So, even though the main focus within this brief was to explore poetry and type and layout. I have branched out to give it a context (Waterstones). There will be a permenant section of the store dedicated to the publications. However I am producing a poster that would be featured within bus stops etc.. to help advertise the new publication. These posters will also be featured in the windows somewhere, so an obvious link can be made.
Not too keen on all of the colours, doesn't communicate the publication itself that well.
I like the layout of this one, with the box being centered and other 'chaos' happening around it.
--------------------------------
LAYOUT OF TYPE VARIATIONS.
-------------------------------------
too wordy, too much going on, I don't want to give too much away on the poster, some sort of element of unknowing.
large type with a smaller info at the bottom, I think this and a box in the centre communicates promotional the strongest.
Black and the colour I feel make the poster too complicated.
----------------------------------
Black and white, very simple. I quite like having the type outlined, not as harsh as block.
Layering the squares to give them slightly more body, so the poster has some sort of colour.
----------------------
This looks too much like a cover as appose to a poster. I think it also makes it look slightly boring and not as experimental as it could be.
Post Lorenzo mini cirt,
A really good crit.
- overall comments on my brief was summarising the story that goes with them. I have all of the design work sorted, I now just need to picture how the brief sits within a story. How can I finish them effectively.
We chatted about possible ideas relating to this, i.e packaging roll magazine, book covers context, not necessarily have to be within Waterstones, but if it were in any book store. More about the idea.
- DC book - good advice, perhaps categorising my book through the subjects as appose to the products (film, tv, book , music) . Also, perhaps to make it seem more like a 'scrap book', leave blank pages to annotate myself. Produce the cover myself etc...
- All of the briefs were substantial enough. Don't want to fall at the lasthurdle.

Re thinking Syntax covers
If I want to use acetate I would have to produce the covers smaller so I could buy it from the library (A3 sheet).
I have decided to produce a smaller LP cover
and also a CD cover (seeing as more likely that people going to the gig would have a cd player as appose to a record player)

Shrunk down to the smaller format. I have also made some of the text slightly bigger and made the thickness of the lines thinner. When it is printed only 'TAX' and 'Pride' will print, as the stickers will be stuck onto the acetate.
BIG logo?
Could the logo be larger?
Covers with larger logos,
WHAT I AM PRINTING:
minus the white SYN as it will be stickers
MAYBE JUST PRODUCING CD COVERS?
testing out the logo size
